The Chino Police Chaplain Program was established for the purpose of providing spiritual and emotional support to all members of the Police Department, their families and members of the public. The Chaplain Program is a nondenominational, ecumenical ministry provided by volunteer clergy without financial compensation at the discretion of the Chief of Police.
Examples of duties fulfilled by Chaplains include make family notifications for personnel who have been seriously injured or killed, respond to the hospital or home of sick and injured personnel, participate in personnel funeral services, provide invocations and benedictions at events, provide counseling and spiritual guidance for personnel and their families, responding to incidents involving death, and serving as a liaison with other religious leaders and community members.
Prospective Chaplain candidates must be a person of integrity at home, work and within the community, be ecclesiastically certified (endorsed, ordained, licensed, commissioned) and recommended by a recognized religious body, successfully complete a thorough background investigation, have at least 5 years of successful ministry experience within a recognized church or religious denomination in the Chino community, complete the Chino Police Department Citizen’s Academy program, complete two ride-a-longs with officers and receive a satisfactory evaluation, possess a valid California driver’s license, and pass an interview with the Chief of Police or designee and program administrator.
